A Brief History of Dan's Decals.
DansDecals.com has been a manufacturer of quality vinyl products since 1998. Initially we only sold our products locally and it wasn't until early 2000 that we began selling our products online, primarily through eBay but also through a static html, informational website.
From 1998-2001 our primary product line was automotive decals and we still specialize in high quality vinyl decals for customizing your vehicle. However, in late 2001 with the release of Microsoft's Xbox game system came a new product line: the skin. There are many skin manufacturers out there and several claim to be the first. The truth is nobody knows for sure who the first skin maker was and it was likely an original idea by multiple people in different locations. Dan Niebrugge, owner of DansDecals.com, developed the original Xbox skin independently of anyone else in early January, 2002. By mid-2002 there were multiple skin manufacturers and sellers online.
The concept of skinning products has since exploded and today skins are available for just about any gaming system and accessories as well as cell phones, ipods, pc cases and more. While skins have become a significant volume of our business we still take pride in our quality automotive decals and continue to develop new products to customize your vehicle.
In early 2005 we went live with our first ecommerce website, replacing the static informationl pages and allowing customers to place orders directly on our website. This new site was an out-of-the-box installation of a popular storefront package, customized only by an add-on template to change the appearance. The site helped us to build an online presence and establish an identity easily recognized by our loyal customers.
While our first ecommerce site served us well it was severely lacking in back-end usability and it became apparent that it would never allow us to realize the full potential of the online marketplace. Therefore in mid-2007 work began on a brand new, fully customized ecommerce website. The site you see now is the result of that work.
We are excited about the new capabilities and functionality of our new webstore and we are working to get the many products that we offer input into our database.
